Top 5 Reasons to add The Afterlife of Holly Chase to your December TBRs!
A Christmas Carol with a Twist!
No matter how many versions they make of this story, we always love it. But The Afterlife of Holly Chase isn’t just a regular story of A Christmas Carol, it’s a fun twist set in modern day New York City with a sarcastic teen who hates her job as the Ghost of Christmas Past. There are many great nods to the original story but it’s about a girl and her journey from humbug to hope.
Scrooginess & Sass
I LOVE a good snarky and sarcastic character. Holly Chase is that person! She was tested by her own set of Ghosts but failed…
Characters like Holly that are a little bad but in the end have a good heart, are some of my favs.
Cute Guy & Romance
What’s a fun Christmas story without a little romance? Although a romance between the new Scrooge and the Ghost of Christmas Past who never ages beyond 17…might not work. Especially when he doesn’t know she’s actually dead. (yikes)
Christmas in New York City
Who doesn’t love Christmas movies set in New York City? So of course, a romantic comedy book set in NYC, please and thank you! There’s always something so magical about the Big Apple with snow, the crowds, and the lights and romance.
Christmas Magic & Tech
Even though this is set in a contemporary setting, there is a bit of Christmas magic (and technology). Holly is able to go into peoples dreams to help the company, Project Scrooge, find out vital information they need to help save the next Scrooge. It was clever and fun.
I loved this book and I think everyone needs to read it during the holidays!
About the Book
The Afterlife of Holly Chase by Cynthia Hand
On Christmas Eve five years ago, Holly was visited by three ghosts who showed her how selfish and spoiled she’d become. They tried to convince her to mend her ways. She didn’t.
And then she died.
Now she’s stuck working for the top-secret company Project Scrooge–as the latest Ghost of Christmas Past. Every year, they save another miserly grouch. Every year, Holly stays frozen at seventeen while her family and friends go on living without her. So far, Holly’s afterlife has been miserable.
But this year, everything is about to change. . . .
