Last Friday, January 22nd I was so excited that Victoria Schwab and Susan Dennard were doing a signing at the Barnes and Noble in Northville, Michigan. They are both in town for the ConFusion Science Fiction convention that was taking place over the weekend.
I got to the event a little after 5:00 PM, the event started at 7:00. I knew of around 12 other bloggers who would coming into town and I wanted to get there early to meet up with them! I first met up with Jamie @ and Annalisse @ and they were amazing!
The authors started showing up and Victoria and I took photos of each other 😀

This book event was actually for 9 science fiction writers who are all published under Tor.
Everyone was wonderful! They all shared the reason they started writing.
Victoria shared that she started writing angsty poetry in high school but didn’t starting writing her first novel until college. Her sophmore year of college Victoria said that she wanted to know if she COULD write more than 5 pages. So, as an only child, she claimed her stubbornness made it possible to challenge herself to actually do it.
She also later shared that Neil Gaiman had been such a huge influence and inspiration in her life because his various writing forms let her know she could be a poet and a writer at the same time.
Susan told us she first started writing fanfiction in junior high. These fanfiction stories were about Justin Timberlake who fell madly in love with a girl called Susan. 😉 Susan also went on to explain that it was when Justin had his bleached ramen noodle hairstyle.
She also went on to tell us how she ended up writing her first book. She went into Marine Biology in college and then married a French man and moved to the middle of nowhere in Germany where there was no water. So, she took up her earlier life’s passion of writing.
I can NOT express how wonderful both Victoria and Susan were. I had previously met Susan a few years back and she even remembered my daughter who had come with me before. Victoria was amazingly sweet and humble. She said she still just can’t believe it when people say they love her books. Her humility was adorable and so genuine. They both were truly grateful for all who came out to see them.
I also had the privilege to meet Elise Kova, author Air Awakens. She was super fun and sweet as well.
I met some of my Twitter friends at the event. IT WAS AWESOME!
