🎙Audio Transmission Review: Gemina by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff (ARC Review)

Illuminae was my FAVORITE book of 2015! In fact I bought at least 10 copies that I gave away to other people. It’s a constant recommended reads from me. Review here.

So obviously, Gemina was a MUST reads for me and I was thrilled that my friend Annalisse was able to get me a copy, thank you Annalisse!!! I was so excited about it it took me a while to finally pick it up because I was nervous it wouldn’t possibly live up to Illuminae.

Gemina (The Illuminae Files #2)

by Amie Kaufman, Jay Kristoff , Marie Lu  (Illustrator)

Moving to a space station at the edge of the galaxy was always going to be the death of Hanna’s social life. Nobody said it might actually get her killed.

The sci-fi saga that began with the breakout bestseller Illuminae continues on board the Jump Station Heimdall, where two new characters will confront the next wave of the BeiTech assault.

Hanna is the station captain’s pampered daughter; Nik the reluctant member of a notorious crime family. But while the pair are struggling with the realities of life aboard the galaxy’s most boring space station, little do they know that Kady Grant and the Hypatia are headed right toward Heimdall, carrying news of the Kerenza invasion.

When an elite BeiTech strike team invades the station, Hanna and Nik are thrown together to defend their home. But alien predators are picking off the station residents one by one, and a malfunction in the station’s wormhole means the space-time continuum might be ripped in two before dinner. Soon Hanna and Nik aren’t just fighting for their own survival; the fate of everyone on the Hypatia—and possibly the known universe—is in their hands.

But relax. They’ve totally got this. They hope.

Once again told through a compelling dossier of emails, IMs, classified files, transcripts, and schematics, Gemina raises the stakes of the Illuminae Files, hurling readers into an enthralling new story that will leave them breathless.

Audio/Video Review

Below is a short audio review I made about my main thoughts of Gemina. Of course, it’s spoiler free. I talk about overall impressions.

Additional Comments:
I didn’t really mention anything about Heimdall station. I thought it was extremely well thought out and the science behind everything seemed spot on.  It really is a race against the clock story and this always gets me excited.

The bad guys sucked but the good guys rocked it out!

Overall, I gave Gemina 4 stars and not 5 in comparison to Illuminae because I didn’t find myself as emotionally invested in the characters. I cried, multiple times in Illuminae and while I enjoyed the new characters it wasn’t the same intensity.
BUT, as a sequel it was great and I highly recommend picking it up! It will leave you DYING for book 3!

Bwahaha, I got a final copy for you during one of your giveaways!

THIS REVIEW IS COOL! I agree that the lack of graphics for the ARC really hindered my FULL enjoyment too. I need to buy the physical copy and stare at Marie’s beautiful images!

Omg this is an awesome review! This is totally original and I love how you made it sound like the audiobook in a way.

I had preordered Gemina but Amazon sent me an email the Friday before it released that “the release date had changed” and I wouldn’t get it until November. I ended up canceling my preorder and going for the audiobook. I’m rereading (listening) to Illuminae so I can have time to grab a physical copy of Gemina.

I still haven’t listened to the audiobook of Illuminae but I REALLY want to! That’s weird about the book! Hopefully you’re able to get one soon 🙂
