Ancient Rome – Trident & Net Combat
Ancient Rome and their games were intense to say the least. We think reality shows these days can be crazy but imagine instead of going to the movies, you go to your local Colosseum to watch people murder each other. Sounds fun right?
I’m spotlighting these weapons used in The Valiant, the net and trident. They were one of many weapons used by gladiators in combat. They are pretty straight forward, the net was used to catch the opponent and then stab them with the trident. Good times. Seems effective though.
Famous Trident Wielders
Preparing for this post I couldn’t help but think of many popular movie/book/comic characters who are known for using tridents.
One of my all time favorite Disney movies is The Little Mermaid and King Triton had some mad trident skills. He’s the ruler of the underwater kingdom, Atlantica and his trident is magical and made of gold. Nice. 🔱
One of the most popular characters from The Hunger Games series is Finnick Odair. He came from District 4 and was so popular by Capitol that he received a trident in his first games.
The trident is definitely well known for the Greek mythology about Poseidon who was known for wielding one. He’s one of 12 of the Olympian deities and his domain is the ocean, the “God of the Sea.”
In the film, The Lightening Thief, Percy creates a trident out of water and attacks Luke on the top of the Empire State Building.
Aquaman is a DC Comics superhero and the founding member of the Justice League of America. In more recent storylines he’s also the king of Atlantis.
Jason Momoa played Aquaman in the 2016 movie, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and he gave this character a brand new look and appeal.
Do you have a favorite trident wielder?
About the Book
by Leslie Livingston
Lost to history, the story of the female gladiator has never been told. Until now.
Fallon is the daughter of a proud Celtic king and the younger sister of the legendary warrior Sorcha. When Fallon was just a child, Sorcha was killed while defending their home from the armies of Julius Caesar.
On the eve of her seventeenth birthday, Fallon is excited to follow in her sister’s footsteps and earn her place in her father’s war band. She never gets the chance.
Fallon is captured by ruthless brigands who sell her to an elite training school for female gladiators owned by none other than Julius Caesar himself. In a cruel twist of fate, the man who destroyed Fallon s family might be her only hope of survival.
Now, Fallon must overcome vicious rivalries, deadly fights in and out of the arena, and perhaps the most dangerous threat of all: her irresistible feelings for Cai, a young Roman soldier and her sworn enemy.
