“If you want any chance of winning the actual Game, you’d better get accustomed to blood on your soul.” The Crown’s Game
Release Date: May 17th, 2016
Formats: Hardcover, eBook
Vika Andreyeva can summon the snow and turn ash into gold. Nikolai Karimov can see through walls and conjure bridges out of thin air. They are enchanters—the only two in Russia—and with the Ottoman Empire and the Kazakhs threatening, the Tsar needs a powerful enchanter by his side.
And so he initiates the Crown’s Game, an ancient duel of magical skill—the greatest test an enchanter will ever know. The victor becomes the Imperial Enchanter and the Tsar’s most respected adviser. The defeated is sentenced to death.
Raised on tiny Ovchinin Island her whole life, Vika is eager for the chance to show off her talent in the grand capital of Saint Petersburg. But can she kill another enchanter—even when his magic calls to her like nothing else ever has?
For Nikolai, an orphan, the Crown’s Game is the chance of a lifetime. But his deadly opponent is a force to be reckoned with—beautiful, whip smart, imaginative—and he can’t stop thinking about her.
And when Pasha, Nikolai’s best friend and heir to the throne, also starts to fall for the mysterious enchantress, Nikolai must defeat the girl they both love . . . or be killed himself.
As long-buried secrets emerge, threatening the future of the empire, it becomes dangerously clear . . . the Crown’s Game is not one to lose.
Since I made a book trailer for the book I also thought it’d be fun to do some fan casting! So, I’ve scoured the internet to find Russian actors and actress (or models) who I thought looked like how I envisioned these characters. And they are quite gorgeous! 😍

REVIEW 5 Stars!!!
Reviews for books you love are always so hard to write because it’s hard to explain all the main intricacies that make a book wonderful and THE CROWN’S GAME WAS FANTASTIC!
I won a copy of the arc through a contest on Twitter because of my fan trailer and the moment it arrived at my house I threw everything aside to read it. It had been one of my most anticipated 2016 books and I can honestly say IT DID NOT DISAPPOINT!
I love when book are set in other cultures than mine and I haven’t read too many Russian-inspired books! This book had my heart right from the beginning. One thing I always appreciate is when an author can have well rounded characters but also include adults who aren’t all evil. Many times you don’t have many adult characters or if you do, they’re evil, so it was great to have a wonderful set of non-evil adults. HOWEVER, they’re not ALL good 😉
My Initial Concerns:
I had two pretty big concerns going into this book.
- Is there a love triangle?
- Why does one of the enchanters have to die? I mean, really, why does it have to be that way?
Fortunately, these concerns were unwarranted. Even though the summary makes it look like there will be a love triangle there really isn’t one. I’m glad because even though they never used to bother me in the past, it’s become something I’ve been really struggling with nowadays. I must say though that elements that are “like a triangle” are there, but it’s really not. In the end I walked away from this book feeling like I didn’t had to deal with the frustration of a love triangle. 👍
Secondly, the whole “only one can survive” is addressed and the answer was more than satisfactory.
What I loved!
- Great characters (including secondary): All great books have to have wonderful secondary characters. I felt that each character was well hashed out and I could see them clearly and knew exactly who they were and I LOVED THEM ALL!
- Magic! Ahhh, this book had beautiful magic, the kind that makes you desperately want a movie made so you can see it.
- Bro-mance! YES, I love great guy friendships in books! Pasha and Nikolai’s friendship was one of the best things about this book.
- Beautiful Setting: Saint Petersburg was gorgeous and the perfect setting for this fantasy novel!
- Unpredictable plot: I really had no idea where this book was going to take me.
